Doug Baldwin Named No. 1 NFL Prospect By Football Outsiders

Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Doug Baldwin is the No. 1 prospect in the NFL according to Aaron Schatz of FootballOutsiders.com. Schatz published Football Outsiders' annual rankings on ESPN.com, trying to reveal potential breakout stars for this coming season.

To be considered a prospect, a player must follow this criteria:

  • Drafted in the third round or later, or be an undrafted free agent
  • Entered NFL between 2009-2011
  • Fewer than five career games started
  • On initial contract
  • 26 years old or younger.
Baldwin was easily one of the Seahawks' most important contributors last season. Signed as an undrafted free agent in 2011, Baldwin led the team with four touchdowns and 788 receiving yards. If he can prove himself to be useful outside the slot receiver position, he has a chance to become an elite receiver in the league. Currently, Ben Obomanu and Golden Tate are ahead of Baldwin on the depth chart.

After the jump, see a snippet of what Schatz said about Baldwin.

Star-divide

He was the first player since the AFL-NFL merger to lead his team in receiving yards as an undrafted rookie. Just for good measure, Baldwin also had 14.2 percent DVOA while every other Seattle receiver with at least 10 targets was below zero. Nevertheless, Baldwin only started one game last year, because he was used strictly as a slot receiver. (Via: ESPN Insider)
