Acer announces Aspire M3 and Aspire V5 laptops with touchscreens (update: hands-on photos)

Acer announces Aspire M3 and Aspire V5 laptops with touchscreens

In case you haven't noticed, there are two kinds of Windows 8 devices on display at IFA this week: laptop / tablet hybrids, and already-announced laptops, refreshed to include touchscreens. Acer's newest two Ultrabooks fall into that second category: the company just announced touch-enabled versions of its Aspire M3 Ultrabook and Aspire V5 thin-and-light. For now, Acer isn't saying a word about price or availability, so for now you'll have to be content with a few spec details, all embedded after the break.

Update: We've added some more pictures of Acer's new touch-friendly Ultrabooks in the flesh.

Anderson Silva says he didn?t finish Thales Leites at UFC 97 out of respect

Anderson Silva's last three middleweight title defenses have ended in knockout or technical knockout in the first or second round. He has been on a tear that has cemented him as one of, if not the greatest mixed martial artist in the sport's history.

But before the recent tear and the fifth-round submission win over Chael Sonnen, Silva went through a period that can only be described as weird. In wins over Patrick Cote, Demian Maia and Thales Leites, Silva was not the dominating force we're used to seeing now.

At UFC 97, Leites was clearly outmatched, but Silva couldn't -- or wouldn't -- finish his fellow Brazilian. Three years later, Silva explained why he didn't finish the fight to Brazilian outlet Tatame.

"There's no such thing as holding back. I want to finish as soon as possible. The only time I did it was because he was a friend of mine. It was against Thales Leites. We went until the last round because he's a friend of mine and I respect him", Anderson said.

Since it was three years ago and he's been so dominant since, it's hard to hold this against Silva. However, it puts a new wrinkle in the question of teammates and friends fighting.

Donald Cerrone and Melvin Guillard were teammates, but their scrap at UFC 150 was one of the best 1:16-long fights I have ever watched. Neither held back out of respect, as Silva said he did against Leites.

Their fight gave ammunition to UFC president Dana White, who often gets frustrated by fighters saying they don't want to fight teammates. If teammates Cerrone and Guillard could not just fight, but knock each other silly, why not push teammates to fight?

Silva's comments say why it can still be tricky to force fighters to fight friends and teammates. His bout with Leites caused White to say, "I've never been embarrassed of a UFC fight like I was tonight." While White and the UFC can push fighters to get in the Octagon together, they cannot make them fight the way they want.

HBO to air Rolling Stones documentary on November 15

NEW YORK (TheWrap.com) - From Keith Richards' tell-all book to assorted concert documentaries, fans of the Rolling Stones may feel they've learned it all about their favorite band.

Not so fast. "Crossfire Hurricane," a new documentary about the British supergroup's rise to prominence, will debut on HBO November 15.

And there will be plenty of dirt. Mick, Keith and the rest of the gang, from their teenage years to their apex of fame. Packed clubs, drug use, friendship and screaming women all serve as a backdrop to the rise of one of the most successful bands in music history.

Brett Morgen ("The Kids Stays in the Picture," "30 for 30," "Say It Loud: A Celebration of Black Music in America") directs.

"'Crossfire Hurricane' invites the audience to experience firsthand the Stones' nearly mythical journey from outsiders to rock and roll royalty," Morgen said in a statement. "This is not an academic history lesson. ?Crossfire Hurricane' allows the viewer to experience the Stones' journey from a unique vantage point. It's an aural and visual roller coaster ride."

The film will premiere in the U.S. on the pay cable channel and receive a theatrical release in England. Eagle Rock Entertainment is distributing the film in London, while Tremelo Productions and Milwood Films produced it.

The film's title comes from "Jumping Jack Flash," the Stones' 1968 single later released on the album "Through the Past, Darkly (Big Hits Vol.2)."

Family Home and Life: Seed Packet Template - Jcshelton's blog

With fall just around the corner ( yes it's wishful thinking!)? it will soon be time to start saving seeds from you garden. So I thought I would be real smart and make a seed template for you to print out. I?ve not made printables before and I searched high and low for a tutorial to learn how it's done. It took some work let me tell you. ?(to figure it out, for me at least) Here is the link to the one tutorial?that finally helped me in case you need one.

Seed Round Up (Graphics Fairy)

What I really want to do is learn how to create something as simple as a seed template on the computer. I had grandiose ideas of pretty vintage graphics decorating?mine but that was more than I could accomplish.??

Or a pretty frame for my seed info (Graphics Fairy)

?

I made this one (below) the old school way, drawing, tracing and cutting then scanning it into the computer. I scanned it as a photo then took it to Pixlr to add the text. It doesn?t look as slick as the other seed packet templates out there online. Is there anyone who can send me in the right direction to learn how to make one on my computer?
I made two printable seed packet templates for you to use if you like. One has a large seed packet on one page and the other has a small seed packet on one page for you to choose from. I tried to have two small packets on one page but for some reason Google would upload it as two pages with one packet on each. In Word I had two packets on one page. I have no idea what went wrong.

Here it is; they can be printed on regular printer paper or onto card stock for a sturdier packet. Pretty scrap book paper could also be used.

It would be a fun project for the kids to decorate your seed packet template before you cut it out. Let them color it with crayons, markers, or stamps if you like. I vote for small garden themed stamps J

Cut out your template and fold where you see the dotted lines in the picture. Your print out will not have the dotted lines. For a nice clean fold, use a ruler or other straight edge to fold the template over on. Glue back flaps and bottom flap down. Top can be taped or glued. If one day I learn to make a better and prettier seed packet template I'll replace this one for?you all.?And now that I have learned how to make a downloadable printable document, I can start giving you patterns on occasion?for the things I make. Like?for the?felt cupcakes I made a while back. I hope you enjoy my silly little seed packets.

Laughter has a powerful effect on health and well-being. It relieves tension and stress, elevates mood, enhances creativity, and provides a quick energy boost. Laughter also brings people together and helps them better navigate conflict. Mutual laughter and play are an essential part of strong, healthy relationships. Use these tips to incorporate more humor and play into your love relationships ? as well is your connections with coworkers, family members, and friends.

The power of laughter and play

Playful communication is one of the most effective tools for keeping relationships exciting, fresh, and vital. Laughter and play enrich your interactions and give your relationships that extra zing that keeps them interesting, light, and enjoyable. This shared pleasure creates a sense of intimacy and connection?qualities that define solid, lasting relationships.

People are attracted to happy, funny individuals. Laughter draws others to you and keeps them by your side. When you laugh with one another, a positive bond is created. This bond acts as a strong buffer against stress, disagreements, and disappointment. And laughter really is contagious?just hearing laughter primes your brain to smile and join in on the fun.

Match Making For Boomers: Love Without Pain

Why can one of the most wonderful gifts God has given to man cause so much pain to so many? Why does it leave most people hurt and frustrated? Some even consider it a traumatic experience. I am, of course, referring to love.

But it should not be that way. Like all of God's creations, love is made to make us happy, fulfilled, and gives us a preview into what is in store for us in Heaven. It is us who make love painful and frustrating. Hence, it is us who can make it a blissful experience as it is really meant to be.

First of all, let us discard the myth about love that poets inculcate in us. They insist that love, to be fulfilling, should be reciprocated. The truth is, Love can stand alone on its own. It is unlike the proverbial tango that takes two to do it. Love is a special feeling that can be savored and enjoyed in itself. Love is the best thing that can happen to anyone but it does not necessarily need to be reciprocated. True love is unconditional. It thinks only of the loved one's welfare and happiness, not of itself, so it expects nothing in return. No less than the Bible says so:

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, 1 Corinthians 13:4-13

However, our love is usually conditional. It is based not on how we really feel but more on how the focus of our love behaves towards us. Since we have very little control, if at all, over others' feelings and reactions, this is a most shaky basis to hold on to. The unreliability of human nature, the personal biases, and mood swings of others make us feel very insecure, unhappy, and miserable throughout our relationships. These usually contribute to the pain and frustration in our experience with love.

Being happily in love depends entirely to our mindset, our personal perspective towards it. To expect love to be returned with same intensity as we give it is to invite disappointments and heartaches. Take for example the celebrities who are loved and adored by million. These celebrities are not expected to love back with equal intensity the millions who love and adore them. If this line of thinking prevails, jealousy, heartbreaks, crimes of passion caused by unrequited love, broken marriages caused by insecure partners, will be things of the past. Simply be in love and be happy because being in love is a blessing in itself. For it to be reciprocated is extra privilege given to a lucky few who fall in love - not to be demanded by one and by all.

In case love flies out of the window, trying to win it back will not do any good. When one's affection is lost to others, no use fighting and running after it. If ever someone succeeds in getting somebody back by coercion in any form, things will never be the same in the relation. A beautiful vase, once cracked, can never be set back to its former self. Peace of mind is gone. Distrust and jealousy will forever haunt the relationship. Getting into a new one may not be easy but is the better and less expensive alternative.

We can enjoy love without the pain and heartaches usually associated with it, the same way we can appreciate a rose without the thorns, if we will only shift our point of view towards it. Providing quality reviews, articles and writings on love, dating, relationships and marriage online.

Education of Business Online from NCSU All About Videos ? Basic ...

Ever heard about ?sticky? websites? For an internet marketing beginner, this should be one of your goals ? to create a good website, one that attracts traffic and encourages them to stay and use links and functions provided on the site. Many internet marketers have discovered that one of the best ways to do this is to provide videos, particularly those that are industry-related. Videos are an excellent means to bring in traffic while at the same time, provide people with information they can truly use. For internet marketing beginners, this is good news. Not only can they learn from the best in the industry through these short movies, they can also use these resources to increase their income for their internet marketing business.

Benefits of using videos for internet marketing beginners

If you?re a beginner in internet marketing, the best way to make it in your industry is to keep informed. This market evolves fast, with changes in practices happening virtually by the day. It?s also a rather fickle industry, capable of focusing intense spotlight on an idea only to shift that spotlight on another idea in a matter of weeks.

With videos, you can access information immediately, implement it if it proves useful for your business or simply discard it if it?s not. Short films are also an excellent way to promote your products and services, particularly during the initial stages when you need to create a lot of buzz.

What videos to use for your internet marketing business

For beginners in this industry, there are numerous videos you can learn from online, most of which are being provided for free. If you don?t have prior experience in internet marketing before, try titles that offer you an introduction to the topic.

An example is Steve Nam?s ?Internet Marketing: Make Money Online for Beginners? or ?Newbies? Internet Marketing Guide?. These videos and similar like it offer you a glimpse of what the internet marketing industry is like, how it works and how to effectively generate income. Generally, this will not include details of the business but it should give you a pretty good idea of what to expect in the world of online marketing.

You might also want to take a look at video series, which include lectures that provide information about the industry as well as tutorials on income-generating models. These are more detailed and since each part of the series is short (most of these videos are less than 10 minutes in length), there?s plenty you can learn.

AdSense videos

Google AdSense can be an important part of your internet marketing business so you might want to search for movies that offer training on how to use AdSense. AdSense doesn?t have to be complicated and in fact, Google has a nice step-by-step tutorial for wourld-be users but if you want information from insiders and experienced AdSense users, what they can tell you is a lot useful ? almost like a short-cut on the process.

Search engine optimization

SEO is an important concern for internet marketing beginners. If you?re still trying to build buzz about your business, you need search engine rankings, which can only be made possible if you have an effective search engine optimization strategy. Look for movie tutorials on SEO online, which will train you on the basics and help you design and plan a website that can help attract the right traffic and build links.

Traffic building

The topic of traffic building is often interrelated to search engine optimization, marketing, e-mail list building, and traffic targeting. Videos that teach you the right way to build traffic are essential to your business and will help build the foundation to a strong business strategy.

Multiple streams of income

There are a lot of opportunities for beginners in internet marketing, particularly in income generation. Look for videos that offer tutorials on how to create multiple streams of income-generating businesses. You?ll appreciate this later when you wish to expand your market and maximize your money-earning potential.

DIY videos for internet marketing beginners

When it?s your time to create your own videos, you might want to learn a few tips from those who have the right experience. Short movies can cost a lot of money to create and if you have little idea on what you are doing, the end result may not be so useful. Learn as much as you can from videos designed for internet marketing beginners, such as ?Internet Video Publishing: A Beginner?s Guide?, which offers a tutorial on how to use films to publish your own lessons. You?ll find the training provided in these short tutorial movies very useful should you decide to produce your own short films in the future.

Motivation Mondays: Maja Launches Her Health & Fitness Blog ...

I think this is my most exciting Motivation Monday...ever! ?My gorgeous friend Maja was the first to ever be featured in Motivation Mondays and for more than a year, I begged her incessantly to start a blog.

Maja is a huge inspiration to me because in addition to living an extremely healthy lifestyle (she and her husband even grow their own vegetables), she is also incredibly kind, intelligent and beautiful inside and out.

I annoyed Maja enough and I am thrilled to tell you that she finally launched her very own blog, HautePNK!

Maja's blog focuses on health and fitness, with a little style and beauty mixed in. ?The best part is that she shares her workouts (her body is amazing---and she works hard for it!) and also shows photos of how to do each move. ?If you ever don't know what to do at the gym, you can use your phone to pull up HautePNK and try one of Maja's workouts.

In celebration of the launch of her very own blog, I asked Maja to share with us some of her fitness updates, favorite foods and overall fitness advice and motivation.?

Over a year ago, you were my first Motivation Monday feature---I think you pretty much inspired the entire series---so what made you finally decide to start your own blog (after me badgering you for well over a year?)
I am a big blog reader, but had never envisioned being one myself until that first Motivation Monday post. Veronika?s Blushing is what really sparked the fire! The one thing I admire most from you and other blogs I follow is that they really earn my trust. You see a real person with real life experiences and over time you trust their feedback. In parallel, I had a growing number of friends seeking advice on workouts, recipes, products I use, etc. It kind of all clicked together and realized I wanted to take the love I had for blogs and action it with something I am passionate about. I love the community, support, and the feedback from like-minded people. I think most of all, I wanted to take the opportunity to share all that I?ve learned (and am learning) through real life experiences to reach anyone who is looking for it. What is the overall goal of your blog?
As clich? as it sounds, if my blog reaches even one person and positively impacts them or helps them reach their goals in any way shape or form, I feel I?ll have fulfilled the intent. The thought of someone changing their lifestyle to get in shape and eat better while using some of my feedback as a guide, blows me away. I want to create a positive community where we can support one another and share feedback.?
As your blog grows, what kinds of posts can we expect to see from you?
HautePNK is still in its infancy stages. I tried to start with a vast taste of what?s to come when I launched. In short, it will have a strong focus on workouts, diet and nutrition, tons of tips and tricks that work for me - it?s what I LOVE most! I?ll also plan to post reviews of products I love (and ones I don't). Also, some outfits of the days/nights and maybe the odd shopping haul. It?ll almost be a mash of all the things I find most interesting in the blogs I follow. I am hugely open to feedback and requests too.

Will you also blog about style and beauty? You have amazing makeup/hair/everything!
I most definitely intend to! Some of the most common questions I get are about hair and makeup, so I figure I?ll consolidate my response and just make a blog post about it. I?m not one of those quirky people who can pull off various different unique/adventurous styles, but I think there is still something nice and classic about the girly girl conservative look. Maybe this blog and the people I meet through it will eventually take me out of my comfort zone and I?ll try some new things.

I love how you show photos of how to do all of the moves---it's so easy to look up the workouts on your iPhone when you get to the gym---what inspired you to make your blog so user-friendly?
When I really started thinking of a blog, one of the things I wanted to put lots of attention on was planning out was the site map, usability and most importantly reader experience. I have spent the better part of my career in technology, so it was natural for me. It doesn?t follow the standard blog format where the whole post is on the landing page, but I had this vision all along, so I went with the tiles. I wanted to make a nice browsing experience (I feel it?s easy to browse through older posts), and I put lots of attention in the details (i.e the animations when you scroll over the post name, the custom twitter bird, swipe feature from a smart phone/iPad etc).

What is the best fitness advice you've ever gotten?
This is an easy question because there are a couple of definitive things that I was told and think of every single day ? I mulled over this and couldn?t pick just one, so here they are:

1.???? It isn?t the number of reps you do to feel a burn, it?s the number of reps you ?push out after you start feeling the burn

o??? This one statement stands out in my mind every time I work out and just give it that extra push. As soon as I think I am done because I can start feeling it, that?s when I know I have to step up and keep going. That is where the results are hiding.

2.???? PATIENCE

o??? Patience truly is a virtue. A lot of people are really good at starting a program and being dedicated, but what I find mostly (true for me some days as well) is that you think that you?re going to start seeing amazing results within the first week. Reality check: you need to be patient and trust the system. Keep going and do not get distracted ? remain focused and be patient.

What are some of your current favorite snacks?
I snack a lot! When I post food journals to give a glimpse into some of my daily meals, you will find that I snack in between every meal. Some of my favourites are baby carrots, bananas, apples, berries, salads and of coure; homemadeoat bars.

How about dinners?
FISH! I love cod, haddock, tilapia, and salmon the most. I will post some great healthy recipes for baking fish and their benefits. Other than that, I find some tiny pleasures in having breakfast-y items in the evening, so I might make some omelettes or scrambled eggs. Alongside, I will always have a salad, zucchini or some kind of veggie. For carbs, it usually a small sweet potato, rice or something like that.

Tell us about your vegetable garden? What made you decide to grow one? What vegetables do you grow?
I grew up with my dad planting a huge garden every summer. I distinctly remember the difference in taste between everything we grew at home and what we were forced to buy in the winters from a grocery store (same with my husband when he grew up). So when we got married and bought our first home we immediately converted over half of our back yard into a vegetable garden. We don?t use any pesticides and all the soil and seeds we use are certified organic. We grow TONS of lettuce, kale, swiss chard, cucumbers, tomatoes, zucchini, peppers, eggplant, hot peppers, green onions, beets, radishes and spinach. Again, I plan on doing a whole tutorial on the garden and how little of space you actually need to grow a large amount of vegetables.

Your husband is so supportive of you---what is his involvement with the blog?
He?s amazing ? I am truly blessed. From the first minute I mentioned that I wanted to start a blog he?s always offered his advice and infinite support. He owns a full service design and advertising company and he took me on in his spare time, then had his developers build ?the dream?. The team did an amazing job through design, build and testing. I am so thankful to all of them!

Where do you see your blog a year from now??
If someone told me I?d even have a blog one year ago, I probably wouldn?t have believed them. So thinking a year ahead, I am hoping that I will have developed a community that can learn and share with me. I have no intention of slowing down and will continue to always share my honest opinion, feedback and tips.

What other interests do you have other than fitness that your readers might want to know about?
I have a deep appreciation for art and music. I love high fashion. I love movies, but not TV (we don't even have cable or the basic channels at home). I aspire to be an advanced seamstress one day and admire anyone who is really good at sewing. I adore baking! I never bake for myself, but jump on the opportunity to bring a treat when we are invited to a party or dinner. I'm also very crafty and put a lot of effort into something as little as decorating a cake or wrapping a gift.?

Thank you Maja, for motivating us this Monday! I am personally so thrilled that we will all have your blog as such an amazing resource to learn more about fitness and health so thank you for all of the time and effort you put into it!

Apple's victory means soul-searching for Samsung

SEOUL, South Korea (AP) ? A U.S. jury's $1 billion verdict against Samsung for what rival Apple claimed was the illegal copying of its iPhone and iPad designs signals a turning point for the South Korean electronics giant known for its prowess in adapting the innovations of others and nimbly executing production.

The verdict not only jolted the world of global gadgetry but also likely sparked some soul-searching in Suwon, South Korea, where the family-run Samsung conglomerate is based.

The world's top seller of smartphones finds itself in the post-iPhone reality, where the decades-long practice of industry mimicry now can mean a bruising legal challenge.

And so Samsung finds itself back at the drawing board, to recreate itself as an innovator, not an imitator. But the switch, experts say, will be much more challenging and time-consuming than the shortcuts Samsung used to take.

"The case shows that Samsung is still inadequate in soft(ware) area, such as designs and patents," M.S. Hwang, a Hong Kong-based analyst at Samsung Securities, said in a commentary.

Samsung has a top-heavy command structure that centers on the founding family. At the apex is 70-year-old Lee Kun-hee, who inherited the mantle from his father, Samsung founder Lee Byung-chull, in 1987.

The strict hierarchy has enabled speedy and bold investment and swift execution. That, plus the ability to build on the innovations of others, like Sony ? has helped Samsung become the world's largest maker of televisions, memory chips, liquid crystal display panels and now smartphones.

Its path is reminiscent of many Japanese companies, like Canon and Nikon, which started out by copying European designs and then became innovators and pace-setters in the 1960s and 70s.

"It is impossible to be an innovator from the beginning," said Chang Sea-jin, a professor at National University of Singapore. "If you don't have a technology, imitating more advanced companies is the easiest way to catch up."

Samsung has long been regarded as a "fast follower" ? imitating or licensing technologies and then competing by lowering costs, improving quality and adding functions.

It overcame its belated entry into the memory chip business in 1983 with efficient mass production and investments. Today, Samsung supplies about 30 percent of the chips that go into electronic gadgets.

In the early 2000s, Samsung claimed leadership in the global television industry.

But when Apple released its cutting-edge iPhone in 2007, Samsung employees were likely too pressed to catch up to scrutinize possible patent encroachments. South Korea also has a much less strict idea about intellectual property than the U.S., Chang said, and speedy execution is highly valued at Samsung.

Still, Samsung outsold Apple this year in smartphones by offering more variety, including low-end phones for prices-conscious consumers.

Last Friday, a jury in San Jose, California, ruled that Samsung went too far in copying the iPhone and the iPad. It awarded Apple $1.05 billion, while a judge considers whether to ban sales of eight Samsung products in the U.S. Samsung has vowed to appeal.

Samsung's stocks plunged 7.5 percent in Seoul on the first trading day after the verdict, costing $12 billion in market value. Samsung has vowed to appeal, but unsuccessful legal battles against Apple in a host of other countries means that Samsung has few choices other than to create its own design identity.

In the last few years, Samsung has been investing in design, not only in mobile phones, but also in televisions and home appliances. But the results were not near the level of revolutionizing the look and feel of a consumer electronics product or the way consumers interact with technology.

Bill Fischer, a professor at International Institute for Management Development in Lausanne, Switzerland, says Samsung still has not breached the divide between itself and consumer electronics companies like Apple and Sony.

"They tend to take bigger risks regarding products brought to market, and they try to become creators of revolutionary new technologies," such as iPods, smartphones and Sony's Walkman music player, Fischer said in an email to The Associated Press. "This is a different mentality."

The choices that Samsung has made so far "are not choices conducive to growing the sort of design and customer-centricity that has long made Apple unique," he said.

That does not necessarily mean that Samsung must become another Apple. Samsung, which supplies mobile processors that work as a brain in the iPhone and the iPad, as well as displays and memory chips to Apple, reaches far and deep into the areas that Apple does not ? especially in electronics hardware manufacturing.

"Innovation does not necessarily mean an entire change. Doing better than the present and doing better than others are also innovation," said Lee Myoung-woo, who once led Samsung's consumer electronics businesses in the U.S. and is a professor at Hanyang University in Seoul.

"Even if other companies are not breaking away too far from the rules that Apple made with the iPhone, other companies can come up with product innovation in the areas that Apple didn't see," Lee said.

He cited the Galaxy Note as an example, a smartphone with an overblown screen that became popular.

How to Make Cash On The InternetAre you one of those people who dream of touring the various countries and cultures of Europe, going on safari in Africa or experiencing the numerous exotic sights and sounds of the Orient? If so, you?re in good company. Many people long to travel, yet they have no idea how to make it happen.?

Unless you?re independently wealthy, you still face the reality of needing to earn a living while you travel. By using the Internet to your advantage, it?s possible to create the very income that you need to subsidize your journey and live an independent life anywhere you choose.

If you have an area of expertise, you can use it to cash in with your own website. Whether you possess an extensive knowledge of crocheting, cycling, nursing or another activity, you can create a money-making website that showcases your talent. Update your content regularly, and create a downloadable e-book available for purchase by your readers.

Some people choose to write Internet content for a living. Whether you sell your articles and blog posts directly to the appropriate websites, or sell content on sites that offer articles to a variety of customers, you can certainly generate enough cash to live modestly in a country with a low cost of living.

Online auctions are another way to accumulate the money you need to travel. The items you find in exotic locations may appeal to locals or to those back home. Research the market and price your items accordingly. Pick up an authoritative book that outlines the process of selling via online auctions if you?ve never placed items up for bids before.

Virtual assistants are becoming more and more popular in the Internet age. Small business owners often hire a virtual assistant rather than employing a full-time secretary to handle their correspondence. If you have office experience, you can easily market yourself as a virtual assistant and garner a regular weekly pay-check.

If you?d like the security of working for a company rather than working for yourself, consider a customer service position. Many companies hire customer service reps to work from home to provide assistance to their customers. You?ll have set hours and a pay-check that you can count on.

Consider starting a travel blog to detail your experiences around the world. Once you develop a regular following, you can entice companies to pay you to allow them to advertise on your blog. The higher the number of hits you receive, the more you?ll be able to charge your customers for advertising space.

As you can see, there are numerous ways to generate an income using nothing more than your computer and an Internet connection. No matter what type of business you choose, you can receive your pay wherever you hang your hat. With online banking, you can easily link your bank accounts and credit cards together for easy money transfers. Using services like PayPal and Western Union can allow you to send and receive money anywhere in the world.

No matter how you choose to make and manage your money, there are ways you can stretch your U.S. dollars even further. Many countries have a cost of living that is significantly lower than that in the United States. Research locales that appeal to you, and search out those that will allow you to live on the least amount of money possible.

Some countries to consider when it comes to living cheap include India, Vietnam, the Philippines, Poland, Thailand, Mexico, Peru and the Czech Republic. As currency values and economies are always changing, it?s important that you research well before any move to make sure you have the most up-to-date financial information.

Once you know the ins and outs of making a living online, travel no longer has to be a pipe dream. By doing your homework and investing sufficient time and effort, you?ll be able to create an independent source of wealth that allows you to live anywhere in the world that you desire.

She arrived back in the UK from Koh Tao Island just over a month ago where she was able to live the luxurious lifestyle of a wealthy person on not much more than ?750 per month. Lucy writes for Premier Self Storage, an ideal company to use if you?re planning on mini-retirement or medium to long-term travel overseas.

"Pain is temporary. It may last a minute, or an hour, or a day, or a year,
but eventually it will subside and something else will take its place.
If I quit, however, it lasts forever."
- Lance Armstrong

Hello and Welcome to the Minthill House!

For one reason or another, your mental health specialist or family member has referred you to the Minthill House. We know you are probably not leaping at the idea, but don't worry. The Minthill House is exactly how it sounds - A house. We are not a large facility with a large staff and many patients which do not let you leave the House. You are one of only four patients recieving help from us here at Minthill, recieving attention from two skilled doctors who truly care about their patients.

We understand you may have other concerns about your stay, such as the conditions of people you will be housemates with. Our patients are carefully selected with conditions which are naturally harmful to others as well as personalities which shall not clash with other's too much. There will not be a gender imbalance in the home to be wary of, and for your comfort, you may have our choice is speaking to either our male doctor or our female doctor, or both if you wish. These doctors will also be staying in the home to ensure that you will be access to help whenever you need it. We are eagerly awaiting your arrival here at The Minthill House! We're sure you'll be happy here!

Sincerely,

Marie Swall,
Founder and Overseer of The Minthill House.

P.S. Once you have finished your treatment here, you will be kept for as brief an observation time as possible before being released, to ensure a quick return to your family and/or friends.

Minthill Home for the Troubled is just as avertized by mental health specialists: A comfortable, home-like environment with care from certified, passionate doctors. The house has what every other house would; Bedrooms, bathrooms, hallways, a living room, a kitchen, and a dining room - Even a study! Everyone here has some kind of problem such as Drug Addiction, Depression, Grief, Alcoholism, Extreme Fear, Delusions, Anger Management Issues, Confusion, or even an extremely irrational, crippling fear of something. (Basically any mental issue that isn't hardcore like schizophrenia)

Each BEDROOM is identical and almost made to be rearranged. They are large and well lit with their own televisions as well as their own, personal bathrooms. The windows of the room open as well, letting in a cool breeze. However, there is a very thin, rounded steel screen for the patient's protection, but is so thin that it's almost not noticable. The door, however, has no lock.

Every bedroom has it's own personal BATHROOM, designed for simplicity, but also comfort. Everything has a grip on it to keep people from losing their balance and falling, but it is open even to feel refreshingly free. However, there is no lock on the door.
Even the LIVING ROOM, DINING ROOM, and KITCHEN look open and free, even through everything does have some sort of safety feature. People are monitored while cooking dinner due to the cutlery (which are stored away when it is not mealtime), the utensils are set on the table, washed, and put straight away into lockable drawers, etc. for patient safety.

It's the type of place that you'd walk into a find yourself wondering:

'Wow! Who will i share this house with?-

Darke County Parks programs are designed to engage, inform and ...

BY JOY ROSEBERRY

ASST. MANAGING EDITOR

DARKE COUNTY--The first Darke County Parks levy was passed in 1994 and part of the promise of that passage was the construction of a facility to be used as a nature education center, community center for non-profits and government meeting space.

In 1997, the Nature Center at Shawnee Prairie was opened, a director, office manager and staff of Naturalist Educators were hired and programs began.

?Those first programs were a general walk through of the parks,? said Roger Van Frank, Darke County Parks current director. ?They involved identifying or inventories of species.?

Today, camps, programs, classes and workshops run the gamut from backcountry survival to making maple syrup to hummingbird banding. And more.

Today, basic skills are lost to much of society and Darke County Parks has developed many workshops and classes to fill that gap with Outdoor Skills Development programs.

The classes are ?ever evolving,? according to Senior Naturalist Robb Clifford. ?We try to offer programs and workshops that get back to arts of the past that are slowly disappearing.?

For instance, last month guests learned to make soap, could take a workshop on Fly Tying, spend an afternoon kayaking or canoeing, and top off the summer with a campout.

In the next couple of months, visitors can take part in a ?Hands on Herbal? workshop, or learn the very basic skill of fire starting ? without matches and upcoming are knitting classes and a fall gardening seminar. It?s not unusual to see a Dulcimer Class or Open Hearth Cooking on the calendar as well.

Visitors can ?come and sit a spell? at concerts, movies and? tours of the Log House. And if you don?t want to sit, take part in Bike to Health rides and Early Morning Discovery Hikes.

KIDS? PROGRAMS AND CAMPS

?The kids are the stewards of tomorrow,? states Van Frank. ?We want nature and our parks to be part of their life.? Striving to make kids programming a vital? of part of Darke County Parks, the following sessions are offered:

* Parent and Preschooler Adventures, a series of monthly, hour-long programs designed to give parents (or grandparents, or babysitters) an opportunity to investigate nature through hands-on activities, hikes, stories, songs and take-home projects. ?Little Explorers? classes, are designed for? 2-3 year olds and ?Seedling? classes are designed for 4-5 year olds. Worms, butterflies, crawfish, nuts, trees and plants are just a small example of wonder the little ones can explore.

* Park P.A.L.S. is designed for 6-9 years olds, with the mission to develop future earth stewards through meaningful educational opportunities and hands on experiences. A few of the areas explored by these kids include mammals, night critters, stream quality management, and wildflowers.

* Junior Naturalists is a series of programs designed to give 10-12 year olds an introduction to natural resource management. Hikes, work projects and independent study are all part of the program. A few?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? ??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????of the topics covered include tree identification, winter survival, and bird breeding.

According to Senior Naturalist Robb Clifford, the Junior Naturalist classes were added later than the others because those who had enjoyed Parent and Preschooler Adventures and Park P.A.L.S. wanted to continue. Even now, the kids always ask for something in the next age range, but says Clifford, ?we ask them to take part in the adult programs. It?s time for them to move on.?

However, older kids, ages 13-15 can take advantage of summer camp, with Extreme Adventures, which this summer, included zip-lining, overnight camping and kayaking.

Camps which included an overnight stay were also held for kids ages 8-12 (Backyard Survival) and ages 10-12 (Paddling, Hiking and Camping).

The younger kids, 6-7, and 8-9, took advantage of Summer Day Camps.

?The dedication of the staff is extraordinary. They have to love what they are doing to pass it along to the kids. That they have the trust of families to drop their kids off for camp and for overnighters, proves we are doing something right,? said Van Frank.

Darke County Parks has worked tirelessly in preparing Nature?s Classroom, environmental education programs designed to enhance and supplement Ohio?s science curriculum. Each program topic addresses current ODOE Science Grade Level indicators and the Science Benchmarks by Academic Content Standards.

The program involves class field trips to Shawnee Prairie and a classroom visit by a Parks? Naturalist.

During the 2011-2012 school year, 5-7,000 school age kids visited the preserve (this number includes the children?s programs).

However, due to cutbacks, some schools have not been able to take a field trip to the prairie. Hopefully, park personnel will be able to get to more schools, offering a kind of ?Classroom in a Box.? Added Van Frank, ?we need to get to the schools. It will be more of an expense for us, but I feel that?s part of our mission.?

Programs can also be adapted for scouts and other groups as well.

Right now the Nature Center is home to Old Thyme Gardeners, Darke County Photo Club, Darke County Birders Club, and Darke County Canoe and Kayak Club. As well as hosting meetings, these groups also offer workshops and programs throughout the year.

The Greenville Art Guild holds an exhibit every fall.

Families have come to expect Darke County Parks to have the programs they want. Said Van Frank, ?we try to engage every person who comes in here. You don?t have to come for a program, you can just come and visit. We want everyone who visits to build us into their routine.?

********************

* Joining Van Frank and Clifford are Naturalist/Coordinator Laura Schwieterman, Naturalist Erica Dickey, Office Manager Deb Shiverdecker, Manager of Parks Maintenance Operations Nathan Epperly, Parks Maintenance Chris Supinger, and a tremendous amount of dedicated volunteers who make it all possible.

*The Nature Center located at Shawnee Prairie Preserve (4267 OH-502, Greenville) is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Restrooms and water fountains are accessible during business hours, as well as educational displays, live animal displays, nature reference library, bird observation area, and nature gift shop.

*Nonprofit organizations may reserve the Nature Center's assembly room, classroom, or meeting room for morning, afternoon, and evening meetings. Room rentals are also available for private parties.

******************

Division leaders lose: Nationals

Associated Press Sports

updated 10:32 p.m. ET Aug. 24, 2012

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Kyle Kendrick has found his rhythm - and maybe a secure spot in the Phillies rotation.

Kendrick pitched effectively for 6 2-3 innings and Jimmy Rollins drove in a pair of runs to lead the Philadelphia Phillies to a 4-2 victory over the Washington Nationals on Friday night.

Kendrick (7-9), one of seven pitchers used by Philadelphia, allowed four hits and struck out three to help the Phillies win for the fifth time in the last seven games. It was the third straight win for Kendrick, who has been bounced between the bullpen and starting rotation throughout his Phillies career.

"He pitched real good, changed speeds and had control of the game," Phillies manager Charlie Manuel said. "That goes to show you when you get focused and apply yourself, good things can happen.

"He's always had to fight to survive. He's proved he can pitch."

Asked about remaining in the rotation into next season, Kendrick said, "That's not my call. I just try go out there and give us a chance to win."

One key to the right-hander's success of late has been working quickly on the mound.

"When he gets in a good rhythm, he moves the tempo and is in control of the game," Manuel said. "He can command the ball about where he wants to. He's relaxed more and his confidence is big."

Tyler Moore homered for Washington, which lost its second straight.

Moore snapped Kendrick's 21 2/3 innings scoreless streak with a two-out, two-run homer in the seventh. Kendrick retired the first two batters in the frame before walking Kurt Suzuki. Moore, pinch-hitting for Edwin Jackson, launched an 0-1 sinker into the seats in left to pull Washington within 3-2.

"After I took a strike I was looking for something to hit," Moore said. "I was trying to be aggressive. I know he's a good pitcher. I put the barrel of the bat on the ball and it went out. Fortunately I got a pitch I could handle."

Jackson (11-8) gave up three runs on seven hits with eight strikeouts and two walks in six innings to fall to 0-4 with a 5.32 ERA in four career starts against Philadelphia.

"Jackson was all over the place but he had pretty good stuff and kept us in the game," Washington manager Davey Johnson said.

Jonathan Papelbon earned his 28th save in 31 chances with a scoreless ninth to preserve the win for Kendrick.

"My confidence has always been there," Kendrick said. "I'm just trusting my stuff, knowing how I am and trusting it."

Said Johnson, "He moves the ball around very well and doesn't give in to anybody."

Rollins gave the Phillies a 3-0 lead in the fourth when he lined an opposite-field, two-out single to left off Jackson to score John Mayberry Jr. and Laynce Nix, who barely beat the tag of Suzuki with an elusive head-first slide at the

Chase Utley's RBI single in the first had given Philadelphia a 1-0 lead. The Phillies were positioned to add on to the lead, with runners on first and third and no outs, but Ryan Howard struck out and Domonic Brown grounded into an inning-ending double play.

The Phillies used four pitchers in a scoreless eighth inning. Antonio Bastardo started the frame with a strikeout of Bryce Harper and was followed by Josh Lindblom, who walked Ryan Zimmerman. Raul Valdes then relieved Lindblom and surrendered a single to Roger Bernadina before striking out Adam LaRoche. With two outs and runners on first and second, B.J. Rosenberg followed Valdes and struck out Jayson Werth to end the frame.

"We had the right guys up at the right time, but just couldn't get it done," Johnson said.

The Phillies padded their lead in the bottom of the inning. Utley walked, stole second and scored on Howard's single to right that put Philadelphia up 4-2.

Michael Morse left the game in the first inning with a contusion on his right hand after being hit by a Kendrick pitch. X-rays were negative, but Johnson said Morse probably would miss "a few days."

Ian Desmond was a late scratch due to a right hamstring injury suffered in Wednesday's game against Atlanta. Desmond, who was replaced at shortstop by Danny Espinosa, was available to pinch-hit. Johnson said he is day-to-day.

Notes: The Phillies honored four Olympic gold medalists with Philadelphia-area ties in a pregame ceremony, as soccer stars Heather Mitts and Carli Lloyd joined Jordan Burroughs (wrestling) and Susan Francia (rowing) to throw out ceremonial first pitches. . Philadelphia placed catcher Brian Schneider on the 15-day DL and recalled Steven Lerud from Double-A Reading. . Phillies right-hander Roy Halladay (7-7, 3.95) is scheduled to face Washington left-hander Gio Gonzalez (16-6, 3.23) in the second game of the three-game set at 7:05 Saturday night.
