Double Olympic champion Mo Farah will be beaten in this year?s London marathon by thousands of 30-somethings, sporting all manner of fancy dress costumes ranging from Scooby Doo to deep sea divers.

Farah, who won both 5,000m and 10,000m gold at London 2012, has decided to run in this year?s marathon but will stop at the half-way mark, as he uses it as preparation for running the course properly in 2014.

The 29-year-old?s decision means thousands of recreational runners will come away from the race on April 21 not only extremely sweaty and blistered, but also able to say they beat Mo Farah over 26.3 miles.

?As a young boy growing up in London it has always been my ambition to run the London marathon,? Farah said in a statement.

?I won the mini-marathon when I was younger and have watched the race every year for as long as I can remember.

?I will make my marathon debut in the 2014 London marathon but will run the 2013 race to halfway as part of my preparation for 2014. It will allow me to understand the course and the systems I will need when I run the full distance.?
