Know your rights when interviewed by the IRS ? Business ...

IRS agents must stop an interview if you ask to consult with a representative. But a new report from the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA) points out problems in this area. In 73 cases it surveyed, TIGTA found that 14 revenue officers deviated from procedures by contacting the taxpayer directly instead of the authorized representative, failing to send copies of taxpayer correspondence to the authorized representative, or not giving the taxpayer enough time to obtain a representative.
